Authorities have announced a timeline for repairs to a gas pipeline in Dagestan following a fire.
The section of the Mozdok-Kazimagomed gas pipeline near Kizilyurt where the fire occurred is planned to be repaired within three days, Dagestan authorities announced.
According to the "Caucasian Knot" newspaper, an explosion and fire occurred on the Mozdok-Kazimagomed main gas pipeline on June 9. There were no casualties. The cause of the emergency was a technical failure; rumors of a gas pipeline explosion are unfounded, the head of Kizilyurt stated.
Emergency repair work on the Mozdok-Kazimagomed gas pipeline is scheduled to begin today. According to preliminary estimates, emergency restoration work could take up to three days, the Dagestan government reported on its Telegram channel.
Ministry of Internal Affairs officers conducted door-to-door visits and informed residents of the current situation. No casualties were reported. Some residents of Kizilyurt, the Kizilyurt, and Khasavyurt districts are experiencing temporary gas supply disruptions, the statement said.
As a reminder, the preliminary cause of the incident is a depressurization of a section of the pipeline. Previously evacuated villagers living near the pipeline have been allowed to return home.
The accident interrupted gas supply to Kizilyurt and villages in the Kizilyurt and Kumtorkalinsky districts, and partially cut off gas supply to Makhachkala. In addition, the administration of the Kazbekovsky district of Dagestan reported that gas outages affected four districts: Kazbekovsky, Kizilyurtovsky, Khasavyurtovsky, and Babayurtovsky.
