The death toll of Azerbaijani citizens in the Sea of Azov has increased.
The bodies of two more Azerbaijani citizens have been found in the Sea of Azov following the drone attack on the cargo ships Natra and Zirkon. This brings the total number of Azerbaijani fatalities to six.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on the night of June 5, two foreign cargo ships with 25 Azerbaijani citizens on board were attacked by drones in the Sea of Azov. Initially, it was reported that five Azerbaijani citizens were killed; later, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry clarified that four of the dead were Azerbaijani citizens and the fifth was a Russian citizen.
The death toll from drone attacks on cargo ships in the Sea of Azov has risen to six, with the bodies of two more Azerbaijani citizens recovered during search and rescue operations, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported today.
"The bodies of Gismet Aliyev, born in 1969, and Fuad Orujov, born in 1981, have been found," the APA news agency reported.
The Foreign Ministry noted that 19 Azerbaijani citizens, who were part of the crew of the attacked ships, were repatriated today.
The bodies of the victims are planned to be delivered to Azerbaijan in the coming days: the remains of Aliyev and Orujov remain in Yeysk pending their escort, and the previously found bodies of the four victims are being prepared for transportation "after the completion of the relevant procedures," the ministry added.
The Natra, a Belize-flagged vessel, was traveling from Turkey to Rostov-on-Don to load grain. There were 12 people on board. The Zircon, a Palau-flagged vessel, had 14 people on board. Azerbaijani citizens worked on these vessels under private contracts.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on June 8, all six people injured in the drone attack on the cargo ships were discharged from the hospital. Among them were at least two Azerbaijani citizens; Two more injured Azerbaijanis, who were taken to the hospital in Yeysk after the incident, were discharged earlier.
