The Elbrus resort is closed for maintenance.
The cable cars and ski slopes of the Elbrus resort are closed for scheduled maintenance, the administration announced.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on September 12, 2025, as a result of a cable car cable break on Mount Elbrus, three people were killed and another 11 people were injured. The court ordered the Elbrus cable car to pay three million rubles for the death of a passenger.
Elbrus is a winter resort in Kabardino-Balkaria, popular among skiers, freeriders, snowboarders, and other extreme sports enthusiasts.
Today, June 8, the cable cars at the Elbrus resort are closed for maintenance, the resort administration announced on its Telegram channel.
The announcement clarified that the cable cars are closed for one day. "These temporary inconveniences are necessary for your ongoing safety," the administration noted.
As a reminder, the director and chief engineer of the cable car company were detained and arrested in connection with the deaths. They were charged under the article on providing dangerous services (Part 3 of Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison). The bank accounts of Elbrus MKD LLC were frozen, and the case was transferred to court at the end of January.
In October 2025, the prosecutor's office filed lawsuits on behalf of the sons of the two deceased men. One of the victims is demanding 10 million rubles in compensation for the death of his father, the other is demanding 15 million rubles.
The winter resort season in the Elbrus region lasts from the end of December to the end of March, according to a reference from the "Caucasian Knot" about the resort.
