A court has ordered the Elbrus cable car to pay three million rubles for the death of a passenger.
The parents of the woman who died in the Elbrus cable car collapse will be paid 3 million rubles in compensation in 2025. Witnesses are being questioned in the criminal case against the director and chief engineer of Pendulum Cable Car LLC.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on September 12, 2025, as a result of a cable car cable collapse on Mount Elbrus, three people were killed and another 11 were injured. The director and chief engineer of the company servicing the cable car were detained and arrested in connection with the deaths; they were charged under the article on the provision of dangerous services (Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years). The bank accounts of Elbrus MKD LLC were frozen, and the case was transferred to court at the end of January.
In October 2025, the prosecutor's office filed lawsuits on behalf of the sons of the two deceased men. One of the victims is seeking 10 million rubles in compensation for the death of his father, while the other is seeking 15 million rubles.

"The prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for moral damages from Elbrus Pendulum Cable Car LLC, which operated the facility. The Elbrus District Court ruled in favor of the parents of one of the victims. Each parent was awarded 1.5 million rubles," TASS reported.
Witness interviews are ongoing in the criminal case regarding the deaths.
This same court is also hearing the criminal case regarding the accident on the Elbrus cable car. "The court is currently in the process of questioning witnesses in this criminal case. Since most of the witnesses live outside the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, their questioning is being conducted via videoconferencing," the court's press service reported on May 26. Akhmat Zalikhanov and Yuri Temrokov are involved in the case, according to the case file on the court's website. Gazeta Yuga previously reported that Zalikhanov headed the cable car, and Temrokov was the chief engineer. Kavkazsky Uzel also wrote that on October 9, the Elbrus District Court banned the cable car, where the fatalities occurred, for 60 days. On December 16, the operation of the cable cars, including on the route where the emergency occurred, wasresumed.
