Khalit Mustafayev's family is seeking to reopen the criminal case into his death.

A court in Stavropol upheld a decision to order the Ministry of Internal Affairs to pay compensation to the family of Khalit Mustafayev, who was shot and killed by a security officer during a chase. The defense is challenging the decision to stop the pursuit of the police officer, who returned from the SVO zone.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot," in March, the Predgorny Court awarded 3.8 million rubles in compensation to Khalit Mustafayev's parents and brother. The man's parents were awarded 1.5 million rubles each, and his brother received 800,000. The Ministry of Internal Affairs filed an appeal against this decision.

In July 2025, the Predgorny District Court of Stavropol dismissed the criminal prosecution of a police officer who had returned from the SVO zone for abuse of power. The father of Khalit Mustafayev, whom the security officer shot during a chase, called the decision unfair. The father said he intended to seek reopening of the case against the security officer in higher courts, who had escaped prosecution by going to the front. He is convinced that the dismissal of the case contains an element of corruption.

The decision of the Predgorny District Court of the Stavropol Territory to collect 3.8 million rubles from the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the interests of the Mustafayevs on June 2 was upheld, and the defendants' appeal was dismissed, a representative of the Team Against Torture* told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The Stavropol Territory Prosecutor's Office supported the position of the Mustafayevs and asked that the decision be upheld," he added.

The father of the deceased young man, Bakir Mustafayev, stated that he was generally satisfied with the court's decisions on compensation and announced that he would seek to reopen the previously dismissed criminal case against the police officer responsible for the death.

"We'll see what the Pyatigorsk Court of Cassation says on June 10" The Fifth Cassation Court of General Jurisdiction will hear the lawyer's appeal against the decision to dismiss the criminal case. "If we reach the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, we will seek to reopen the case and punish those responsible," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

As a reminder, the head of the Lermontov police department apologized for the death of Khalit Mustafayev. A case of abuse of power was opened against the security officer, but the case was suspended because the accused was sent to the special military unit. The apology for the death of Khalit Mustafayev, a Stavropol resident, during a pursuit is four years overdue, his father noted. He demands that the police officers be held accountable, one of whom went on a military operation, while the other is only a witness in the case.
