A Cherkessk resident has been detained in connection with the terrorist attack in Nizhny Novgorod.
Police have detained a suspect in a terrorist attack on a railway in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, who, according to investigators, set fire to a relay cabinet on the Pochinki-Varya section.
The duty unit of the railway's railway department received a report of transport company employees discovering a smoking relay cabinet on a section of the railway in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Transport police officers who responded to the address seized traces of flammable materials and other evidence of arson from the scene, TASS reports.
During an investigation, officers from the Nizhny Novgorod Ministry of Internal Affairs' criminal investigation department for transport identified and detained the young man involved in the arson. He was a 24-year-old resident of Cherkessk.
According to police, the young man received a message via instant messaging containing detailed instructions on how to prepare a flammable mixture and what to do at the crime scene. After this, he set fire to a relay cabinet on the Pochinki-Varya railway line.
Investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (terrorist act). The maximum penalty under this article is imprisonment for up to 20 years.
