A Dagestani resident is suspected of slandering Russian military personnel.

The case of a Makhachkala resident for disseminating false information about the Russian Armed Forces has been referred to court. The court considered the criminal case based on his online publications.

Makhachkala investigative authorities have completed their investigation into a local resident accused of defamation.

According to investigators, on August 10, 2025, the accused, while at his residence in Makhachkala, used a messaging app account to knowingly disseminate false information online that defamed the honor, dignity, and business reputation of Russian military personnel, the Investigative Committee of Dagestan reported today on its Telegram channel.

According to the criminal case file, the published information was defamatory. Investigative actions and forensic examinations conducted during the investigation established that the information disseminated was untrue.

A criminal case was opened under Part 2 of Article 128.1, which carries a sentence of up to two years in prison.

"The investigation has gathered sufficient evidence, and therefore the criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor for approval of the indictment and a decision on sending it to court for consideration on the merits," the department said in a statement.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in late February, a court in Makhachkala sentenced a native of Dagestan to five years in prison, finding her guilty of publicly disseminating false information about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces.
