Proximity to oil depots and refineries also creates problems for residents of Kuban.

As a reminder, proximity to oil depots and refineries also creates problems for residents of Kuban. For example, on May 13, a drone attack was recorded in the village of Volna in the Temryuk District. A fire broke out at the facility, injuring one person.

The village of Volna has previously been linked to drone attacks. Specifically, on February 17, an oil tank caught fire there. The fire was extinguished on February 18. On February 15, two fires totaling 2,200 square meters broke out in the village of Volna after an aerial attack. One was extinguished that evening, the other the following day.

Residents of the Kuban village of Ilsky, where an oil refinery is located, regularly suffer from drone attacks. For example, on February 17, two people were injured in a drone attack in the village and were hospitalized. Four private homes were also damaged.

The oil refinery itself has also experienced repeated incidents related to drone attacks. On September 7, 2025, equipment at the Ilsky Oil Refinery caught fire as a result of an attack. The Ilsky Oil Refinery was built "literally on the outskirts" of the village and is located just meters from the residential area boundary. Any fire at the refinery poses a health risk, Kuban environmentalists previously told the "Caucasian Knot."

From April 16 to May 1, four fires broke out at the oil refinery and the marine terminal in Tuapse following drone attacks. Furthermore, on April 24, after booms broke due to rising river waters, an oil spill occurred into the Black Sea. The environmental consequences of the attacks on Tuapse's oil infrastructure can be found in the "Caucasian Knot" report "Fires and 'Oil Rains': Key Information on the Environmental Disaster in Tuapse."
