Pro-European protests in Tbilisi have continued for 544 days in a row.
On the 544th day of continuous protests, protesters outside the Georgian parliament demanded the repeal of repressive laws and the provision of medication for children with Duchenne syndrome.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on May 24, the 543rd day of continuous protests, a march in support of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy took place in Tbilisi under the slogan: "Give the children medicine."
Protesters on Rustaveli Avenue regularly support demands for the purchase of modern medications for children with Duchenne syndrome, whose parents have been holding a continuous, round-the-clock protest outside the government administration building for the second month. According to the organization "Together Fighting Duchenne Muscle Dystrophy," there are approximately 100 children with this diagnosis in Georgia. Three of them have died recently, one of the most recent deaths occurring in early March, Tbilisi_life notes.
Supporters of Georgia's European integration, carrying national and EU flags, gathered outside the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue this evening for the 544th consecutive time.
Judging by the photos, at least 50 people participated in the protest. Protesters held signs reading: "No to illegal laws in Georgia," "With the help of the youth, we will save the country," "Long live freedom," "May 26th – the day of the big march," and "A Kanye West concert should not be more important than children's lives," according to posts by photographer Mo Se and Georgian media* on Facebook.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze rejected the Patriarchate's request to pardon prisoners of conscience. After several appeals and public statements from clergy calling for the release of arrested protesters, the head of government stated that "the prison doors will not open without repentance," Pirveli reports.
Protesters in Georgia have been demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners since November 28, 2024. Security forces violently dispersed the protests, using tear gas and water cannons, and detained protesters. Thousands of people faced administrative prosecution during the protests.
