A Sochi resident was sentenced to a long prison term for treason.
The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Sochi resident Andrei Miroshnikov to 16 years in prison, finding him guilty of collaborating with the Russian Democratic Union*.
According to investigators, on June 27-28, 2024, the defendant, while in Sochi, established contact with a representative of an armed group - the banned terrorist organization "Russian Volunteer Corps"*.
On July 14, 2024, Miroshnikov received instructions in correspondence with a representative of the group to photograph an air defense facility of the Russian Armed Forces in Sochi. He completed this task, the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported.
On September 8, 2024, Miroshnikov received another order to photograph the airfield radar complex of the city airport. The defendant photographed it and sent the photo to his interlocutor. According to the court, the information Miroshnikov provided about objects in Sochi was reliable, up-to-date, and could be used against the Russian Federation.
In court, Miroshnikov agreed with all the charges. The court found him guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization and treason. , sentencing him to 16 years in prison. The Sochi resident will serve his sentence in a maximum-security penal colony.
"The verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed by the parties to the Military Court of Appeals," the court said in a statement. Despite the announced verdict on terrorism charges, Andrei Miroshnikov's details are missing from Rosfinmonitoring's register of terrorists and extremists as of 0:30 Moscow time today.
