A fire broke out in a high-rise building on Sadaev Street in Grozny. Several people were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning, and 300 people were evacuated. The fire has been extinguished, and while repairs are underway, residents have been relocated to rented apartments.
A nine-story residential building on Sadaev Street in Grozny caught fire last night.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 40 people were rescued, 300 were evacuated. The fire, which covered an area of 2,850 square meters, was quickly extinguished, according to the TASS-Kavkaz Telegram channel.
Grozny Mayor Khas-Magomed Kadyrov reported on his Telegram channel that several people suffered carbon monoxide poisoning and were taken to the hospital. The victims are not in danger. He also stated that, at the direction of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, restoration work will begin soon, with specialists beginning repairs and purchasing all necessary furniture. While restoration work is underway, "residents of the building will be temporarily relocated to rented apartments."
Kadyrov also denied rumors of deaths in the fire, saying these reports are untrue.
Alikhan Tsakayev, Head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Chechen Republic, reported that the fire was caused by "careless handling of electricity." He added: "Unfortunately, this happens often here," writes Chechnya Today.
