Former chief oncologist sentenced in Rostov region

A court in the Rostov Region sentenced the former head physician of the regional oncology center, Evgeny Glumov, to two years in prison, finding him guilty of abuse of office.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in July 2025, the trial of Evgeny Glumov, the former head of the Rostov Regional Oncology Center, began. He was accused of misusing budget funds. According to investigators, he spent part of a subsidy intended for anticancer drugs on hormonal medications for symptomatic treatment. Glumov denied these accusations, explaining that the classifier cited by the investigation does not have regulatory status over the prescription, use, and procurement of medications. He believes the criminal prosecution is related to his attempts to regain his position as the region's chief oncologist.

The Kirovsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Evgeny Glumov, former chief physician of the Rostov Region Oncology Dispensary, on charges of abuse of office, Donnews.ru reported on May 8.

The court found that Glumov's actions led to serious consequences for people with cancer and sentenced him to two years in prison, along with a two-year ban on any activities related to the management of medical institutions. In addition, he was fined more than six million rubles.

In 2024, the Rostov Region Ministry of Health reported that cancer patients cannot receive imported medications due to delivery delays, the regional Ministry of Health stated in 2024.
