A contract soldier from the Volgograd region was killed in a military operation.

Dmitry Vikhlyantsev from the Novoanninsky District was killed in combat in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the military operation, at least 1,771 soldiers from the Volgograd Region have been officially recognized as killed in it.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by May 3, at least 1,770 soldiers from the Volgograd Region were officially recognized as killed in the military operation in Ukraine.

Dmitry Vikhlyantsev from the village of Krasny Oktyabr in the Novoanninsky District was killed in the military operation, the Volgograd publication "City News," founded by the municipal institution "IAV," reported today.

"Dmitry was born on April 23, 2001. He graduated from Krasnooktyabrskaya Secondary School and the Alekseevsky branch of PU-53. On June 6, 2021, he signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. He died on December 30, 2025. The funeral service will be held on May 6," the publication states.

Thus, at least 1,771 soldiers from the Volgograd Region have been officially recognized as killed in the military operation.

The deaths of soldiers from the Novoanninsky District were previously reported on April 14. Then the authorities reported that Vladimir Faber and Artem Breusov were killed in the military operation.

The list was compiled based on data officially released by government officials and law enforcement agencies, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Northern Military District Statistics: Casualties Mounting in Southern Russia."

State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Three Comrades Served: How Authorities Are Depriving Families of Killed Volunteers of Benefits," which describes the stories of the slain soldiers. For example, the mother of the slain Dmitry Ukhanov said she searched for her son's body for four months, while administration and military registration and enlistment office staff inquired from her about the progress of the search without offering any assistance.
