Those detained in Sukhumi in connection with the terrorism case have been handed over to Russia.
The State Security Service of Abkhazia detained Anastasia Kaushan, Anton Kaushan, and Yegor Grishin during a joint operation with the Russian FSB. The detainees, suspected of creating a terrorist group to commit crimes in the Krasnodar Krai, were handed over to the Russian FSB.
According to investigators, Anastasia Kaushan is the organizer of a group whose goal was the violent seizure of administrative buildings in the Krasnodar Krai. She used the Telegram messenger to communicate with other participants. Operational measures against the three suspects have been conducted jointly with the Russian FSB since 2023.
Anastasia Kaushan, in an attempt to avoid criminal prosecution, left Russia for Abkhazia, informing other participants that "the activities of the terrorist group she created have not ceased and that the criminal intent will continue as soon as the danger of exposure has passed," the Abkhazian State Security Service reported on its official website.
On April 27, all three were transferred through partner channels to the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). A criminal case has been opened against Anastasia Kaushan for organizing a terrorist group and participating in it. Investigative actions are underway with regard to the rest.
"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in mid-April, Abkhazian security forces detained a Sochi resident who was photographing her son in front of the Sukhum stele with a Georgian flag. They were given a preventive conversation, after which they were expelled from the country. In March, it became known that Georgian citizen Emzar Bagishvili was detained in Abkhazia on suspicion of espionage; no evidence was presented to support the theory of Bagishvili's involvement in the crime.
On March 5, the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced Romanian citizen Adrian-David Kercho to 15 years in prison, accused of espionage on behalf of Ukraine. In December 2024, he was detained by security forces in Abkhazia, and in April 2025, the FSB announced his arrest in Sochi.
