Officials in Tyrnyauz are under investigation after complaints from residents of a high-rise building.

Tyrnyauz administration staff ignored complaints from residents of an apartment building whose walls were covered in mold and mildew due to roof leaks.

This concerns building No. 79 on Elbrussky Prospekt, where residents have repeatedly complained about roof leaks.

“Water from the building's roof is leaking into apartments, causing mold and mildew to infest the walls, creating dangerous and unbearable conditions for the life and health of residents, including young children,” the Investigative Committee of Kabardino-Balkaria reported today.

Photographs published by the agency show that the ceiling and walls inside the building—both in common areas and in apartments—are heavily infested with black mold.

The investigation concluded that city administration employees ignored residents' complaints for a long time, failing to ensure proper maintenance and eliminating hazardous conditions.

The investigation is being conducted under the charge of negligence (Part 1 of Article 293 of the Russian Criminal Code), which carries a sentence of up to one year of correctional labor or up to three months of arrest. The agency did not specify whether there are any specific suspects in the case, noting only that an expert examination has been ordered and "investigative actions are underway."

The nine-story panel residential building at 79 Elbrussky Prospekt was built in 1986, according to the website Domklik.
