More than a hundred birds in fuel oil were delivered to volunteers in Anapa.

In one day, more than a hundred birds covered in fuel oil arrived at the rehabilitation center on Zhemchuzhnaya Street. More birds are being brought in from Anapa beaches. There was no official information about the spill, but such a large number of affected birds indicates a serious problem, volunteers and bloggers commented.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," a large number of birds arrived at the center after a storm in February. Volunteers reported that they have another 200 birds undergoing rehabilitation, although they receive no funding from the authorities.

The rehabilitation center on Zhemchuzhnaya Street reported a sharp increase in the number of birds arriving contaminated with oil products. "We took in 102 dirty birds!!! We cleaned as many as we could," they wrote on the night of April 11.

Today, the center's volunteers asked for help cleaning the birds. "We desperately need at least 10 people! Please, no experience required, just to hold them. There are over 50 dirty birds. There are seven people at the center; we can't do it alone," they wrote.

On the evening of April 10, volunteers also reported a need for cleaning supplies.

Birds covered in oil products indicate a spill, volunteers and bloggers noted.

"Birds are always a marker. It means there's something swimming somewhere in the sea," the SSL Volunteers headquarters wrote on its Telegram channel.

"I am on Selena beach - there are a large number of greasy birds, some can't even move - two swam away from me into the sea and three more are sitting on the shore. Yesterday, an emergency protective embankment was erected in the area of the Pearl of Russia. Rescue vessels are at sea, - Andrey Makovozov wrote in his Telegram channel.

"There are really a lot of birds - help is extremely important now. "There is no official information yet about the causes of this incident," commented blogger Yuri Ozarovsky.

As a reminder, on December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. A crew member of one of the tankers died as a result. Furthermore, an oil spill occurred, leading to catastrophic environmental consequences, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Fuel Oil Spill in the Kerch Strait."

Materials about the consequences of the fuel oil spill have been collected by the "Caucasian Knot" on the page "Eco-disaster in Kuban".
