Volgograd journalist Koshelev has been arrested.

The Court of Appeal rejected the defense's appeal against the arrest of Volgograd journalist Vitaly Koshelev, accused of extortion, and remanded him in pretrial detention until May 23. His colleague, Alexei Serovoy, is under house arrest.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on March 26, it was reported that two journalists had been detained in Volgograd in connection with the extortion of over a million rubles from the head physician of a clinic and slander. The case concerns journalist Vitaly Koshelev and cameraman Alexei Serov.

The Volgograd Regional Court remanded journalist Vitaly Koshelev in pretrial detention until May 23, TASS reported on April 3.

The journalist's defense team filed an appeal to the Volgograd Regional Court, insisting on transferring Koshelev to house arrest or prohibiting certain activities. However, the court upheld the lower court's decision. Lawyer Albert Karmazinovsky announced his intention to appeal the decision in the cassation court.

The second defendant in the case, Alexei Serovoy, has been placed under house arrest until May 23; he admitted guilt during questioning.
