A Kalmykia resident was arrested for inciting extremism.

A man suspected of publicly calling for attacks on law enforcement officers has been detained in the Iki-Burulsky District of Kalmykia.

According to security forces, the detainee posted active calls for extremist actions on the social network VKontakte. The case was opened by officers of the republic's FSB department.

A linguistic examination confirmed the presence of calls for violent actions against law enforcement officers in the man's text messages. The investigation is underway under the article on public calls for extremism via the internet, RIA Kalmykia reported today, citing security forces.

The article charged against the detainee carries a sentence of up to five years in prison. The FSB statement did not specify which posted materials were in question or what preventive measure had been chosen for the suspect.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the court sentenced Elista historian Elveg Khartskhaev to three and a half years in a general regime penal colony for disrespecting Russia's military glory days and illegal possession of weapons.
