The Georgian Military Highway is closed to heavy vehicles.

Heavy-duty vehicles leaving North Ossetia through the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint are prohibited due to worsening weather conditions in Georgia.

As reported by the Caucasian Knot, on February 2, vehicles leaving North Ossetia through the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint along the Georgian Military Highway were prohibited. The restrictions were lifted on February 7.

The Georgian Military Highway is the only highway that can be used to travel from Russia to Georgia and Armenia.

Heavy-duty vehicle traffic on the Vladikavkaz-Lars section in the direction of exiting Russia has been prohibited since 8:45 a.m. Moscow time on March 23, the North Ossetian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on its website.

The restrictions were introduced "due to the impossibility of ensuring the safe passage of vehicles, as well as taking into account the recommendations of the Georgian Border Police," the publication notes.

The Department of Roads of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia "closed the highway to trailers and semi-trailers due to snow" Gudauri - Kobi, which is part of the Georgian Military Highway, TASS reported today, citing the department's press service.

Caucasian Knot compiled tips for those traveling along the Georgian Military Highway in its guide "To Georgia by Car: How to Avoid Getting Stuck at the Verkhniy Lars Checkpoint".
