A resident of Kabardino-Balkaria has been detained on suspicion of treason.

FSB officers suspect a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria of collecting information about military installations on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence services.

A criminal case has been opened against the 36-year-old resident of Kabardino-Balkaria under the article on treason. Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code carries a sentence of twelve to twenty years in prison, and in some cases carries life imprisonment.

The man collected information about Russian Defense Ministry installations and passed it on to Ukrainian intelligence services, TASS reported today, citing the FSB Directorate for Kabardino-Balkaria.

The agency did not specify the city in which the suspect lived, how he collected information about military installations, or how he was recruited. The date of the man's detention and arrest has also not been announced.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in early March, the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria sentenced a resident of the republic to 13 years in prison, finding him guilty of treason and preparing to commit sabotage.

At the end of December 2025, security forces announced that "sabotage organized by Ukrainian special services had been prevented" in Kabardino-Balkaria. The suspected saboteur, a resident of Nalchik, was preparing to blow up a section of the gas distribution system and was killed during an attempt to detain him.
