The Abkhaz Supreme Court panel found that the actions of MP Kan Kvarchia during the incident at the Abkhazian Herald newspaper office last November contained elements of a crime under the article on threatening to kill.
As reported by the Caucasian Knot, three Russian political strategists were detained on November 5, 2025, on the eve of the municipal elections, at the office of the pro-presidential publication Abkhazian Herald, which was being published without permits. According to Abkhazian media, the political strategists were expelled from the republic. On November 24, it was reported that three suspects had been placed on the federal wanted list in a criminal case involving an armed robbery in Abkhazia (against Russian political strategists). "The credible involvement of Kan Kvarchia, Eshsou Kakalia, and Khyn Dumaa in the commission of the said crime has been established; they have been placed on the federal wanted list," reads a statement on the website of the Sochi Department of Internal Affairs of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Krasnodar Krai.
At the end of December, a court in Sukhumi found the actions of Russian political strategist Ivan Reva before the municipal elections to be violations of electoral law and fined him under three administrative charges.
On March 16, the panel of the Supreme Court of Abkhazia found evidence of a crime in the actions of deputy Kan Kvarchia, upholding the motion of the republic's Prosecutor General Adgur Agrba, Apsnypress writes, citing a statement from the Prosecutor General's Office press service.
The court came The court concluded that Kvarchia's actions contain elements of a crime under Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Abkhazia (threat of murder). The court will send the conclusion, as well as the case materials, to the parliament of Abkhazia for approval to charge Kvarchia in the criminal case opened by the Sukhum prosecutor's office regarding the incident that occurred on November 5 of last year at the editorial office of the Abkhaz Herald newspaper.
