A mining farm was discovered in Abkhazia.

49 units of cryptocurrency mining equipment were seized in the Ochamchira district; the mining farm was illegally connected to the grid.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," the import of cryptocurrency mining equipment into Abkhazia and its use in the republic are prohibited until the end of 2026.

A mining farm with 49 units of equipment was discovered in the settlement of Toumysh in the village of Kutol in the Ochamchira district, the Abkhazian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. Law enforcement officials seized the equipment.

The total power consumption was approximately 162 kWh. The mining farm, located in a separate barn, was powered by an industrial transformer illegally connected to the grid. The farm's owner was Sukhumi resident Ivan Vlasov, according to a video attached to the publication.

Previously, "Caucasian Knot" reported that residents of Abkhazia were facing an energy crisis due to a power shortage. Analysts believe the crisis was caused by cryptocurrency mining, which has become a problem in Abkhazia due to its widespread use and corruption. Back in 2020, the management of Chernomorenergo stated that the problems in the Abkhazian energy sector were connected with the mass installation of mining equipment, however, the company's data does not allow us to judge this definitively, according to the Caucasian Knot report "Voracious mining:Who is to blame for the Abkhazian blackout?".

On January 25, it became known that representatives of the Abkhazian leadership convinced the Russian authorities to extend the deadline for humanitarian electricity supplies.

Earlier, on March 5, 2025, the new president of Abkhazia Badra Gunba at a meeting with Vladimir Putin asked to extend the flow of electricity from Russia, explaining that the volume The incoming humanitarian electricity supply was "practically exhausted." Russia then provided Abkhazia with additional electricity free of charge until April 15, 2025.

On December 21, 2024, Badra Gunba, then acting president of Abkhazia, asked the Russian authorities for humanitarian electricity supplies. On December 23 of that year, Russia began humanitarian electricity supplies, but on January 2, 2025, Chernomorenergo reinstated its power outage schedule. The restrictions were only lifted on February 7, 2025.
