A serviceman from Abkhazia was killed in Ukraine.

Valery Kovalenko, a native of Abkhazia who served in the Russian army, was killed in the military operation zone in Ukraine.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on December 2, it became known that Gurgen Grigoryan, a native of Abkhazia who served in the Russian army, was killed in the Russian military operation zone in Ukraine.

The Abkhazian Defense Ministry's press service reported the death of Valery Kovalenko on its Facebook page*.

"Defense Minister, Colonel General Vladimir Anua, expressed condolences to the family and friends of Valery Vladimirovich Kovalenko, a native of Abkhazia who died in the SVO," the press service said in a statement.

As a reminder, at least 66 fighters from Abkhazia, with some missing. The Abkhaz ambassador to Russia estimated the total number of fighters from Abkhazia participating in the fighting at several hundred. He clarified that it is difficult to determine the exact number of Abkhazians participating in the military operation on the Russian side, as many of them hold Russian citizenship.
