Zarema Musaeva was again found guilty of assaulting a prison officer.
Following a retrial of the criminal case on disorganization of the activities of a correctional facility, the Shali City Court of Chechnya sentenced Zarema Musayeva to three years and 10 months in a penal colony.
As "Caucasian Knot" reported, in August 2025, the Shali Court of Chechnya sentenced Zarema Musayeva to three years and 11 months in prison on charges of disorganizing the work of a penal colony.. On February 16, the Supreme Court of Chechnya overturned Musayeva's sentence and, at the prosecutor's request, sent the case back for a new trial.
The Chechen Supreme Court's decision deprived Zarema Musayeva's defense of the opportunity to seek her transfer to another prison colony and parole.
After reviewing the case, a Chechen court again found Zarema Musayeva guilty of assaulting a Federal Penitentiary Service officer and sentenced her to three years and 10 months in a penal colony, her lawyer, Alexander Savin, announced today. The lawyer added that Musayeva has not yet decided whether to appeal the verdict.
"The Shali City Court of the Chechen Republic sentenced Musayeva to three years and 10 months in a penal colony after less than two days of trial for assaulting a prison colony employee," RIA Novosti quotes Savin as saying today.
The defense believes the court grossly violated Musayeva's right to defense and sided with the state prosecution. According to Savin, his client was denied the opportunity to prepare for testimony and the closing arguments, RBC reports.
Zarema Musayeva is the wife of former federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev. Chechen security forces took her away from her apartment in Nizhny Novgorod on January 20, 2022. After this, Ramzan Kadyrov accused the Yangulbaev family of organizing a terrorist network and stated that their place awaited them "in prison or underground."
