67 drones were shot down in two regions of the Southern Federal District.
The military shot down 66 drones overnight in the Krasnodar Territory and one in the Astrakhan Region. Another 75 drones were shot down over the Black and Azov Seas.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," a drone attack in Novorossiysk injured three people and hospitalized them in the city hospital. Windows and roofs of apartment buildings and private homes were also damaged.
From 11:00 PM Moscow time on March 1 to 7:00 AM Moscow time, air defense alert systems intercepted and destroyed 172 Ukrainian drones, including 66 in the Krasnodar Krai and one in the Astrakhan Region, the Ministry of Defense reported on its Telegram channel.
According to the publication, another 67 drones were shot down over the Black Sea, and eight over the Sea of Azov. The rest were destroyed in the Belgorod and Kursk regions and in Crimea.
Astrakhan Region Governor Igor Babushkin, as of 8:55 a.m. Moscow time, had not reported on the night attack or its aftermath on his Telegram channel.
As a reminder, on December 15, 2025, 38 drones were shot down in the Astrakhan Region. They attacked "industrial and energy facilities," Igor Babushkin reported on his Telegram channel that day. He called it "one of the most massive attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Astrakhan Region."
On September 24, 2025, two people were killed and 14 others were injured after drones and unmanned boats attacked Novorossiysk and Tuapse. That day, people in Novorossiysk, Tuapse, Gelendzhik, and Sochi were ordered to leave the beaches, but in Sochi, some vacationers returned to the sea. Social media users called this behavior reckless.
Civilians in the coastal areas of Kuban resorts risk becoming accidental victims in attacks, so the evacuation of vacationers from the beaches was a justified measure, experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" confirmed.
In September 2025, the Krasnodar Territory imposed a ban on the dissemination of information about drone attacks and their consequences, as well as on filming air defense operations, military facilities, and critical infrastructure. In December 2025, Kuban authorities introduced fines for filming aerial attacks and air defense operations. The "Caucasian Knot" published a corresponding regional legislative assembly bill.
In other regions of the Southern and North Caucasian Federal Districts, including the Astrakhan Region, filming drone attacks and their aftermath is also prohibited. These prohibitions contradict the Constitution, which guarantees the inadmissibility of censorship and the freedom to search for, record, and disseminate information, lawyers pointed out.
