Rosprirodnadzor has filed a claim for 11.2 million rubles against the company "Water Supply Concessions" for a wastewater spill near an arboretum in Volgograd.

Rosprirodnadzor has recorded a wastewater spill onto the soil near the Volgograd arboretum of the Federal Scientific Center for Agroecology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to agency specialists, the contaminated area covered 1,750 square meters. Laboratory tests showed elevated concentrations of iron, sodium, aluminum, cobalt, magnesium, sulfate ions, chloride ions, nitrate ions, petroleum products, and phosphorus in the water, Kommersant reported on February 27. The Lower Volga Department of Rosprirodnadzor demanded that Water Supply Concessions LLC pay 11.2 million rubles in compensation for environmental damage. If the company fails to do this, the agency will go to court.

Previously, "Caucasian Knot" reported that in January of last year the court fined Vodokanal LLC in the Frolovsky District of the Volgograd Region more than 1.6 million rubles for polluting the soil with wastewater from a sewer collector.
