A man died during an arrest in the Rostov region.

A man detonated a live grenade during an attempt to detain him by security forces in the village of Nikolaevka, Rostov Oblast. He died, and criminal investigation officers are in the hospital.

In the village of Nikolaevka, Rostov Oblast, two police officers were injured during the arrest of a man born in 1981, who resisted and detonated a grenade. Two police officers were hospitalized, according to the Rostov Oblast Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This was reported by the regional police department. Law enforcement agencies clarified that the explosion was presumably caused by a live grenade.

Two injured criminal investigation officers from the Taganrog region were taken to the hospital; their condition is unknown. A police investigative team and a Rosgvardia riot police bomb squad are working at the scene.

The agency did not report the charge under which the man was wanted.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on December 9, 2022, it was reported that Pavel Nikolin, the suspect in the shooting at police in Novoshakhtinsk, was taken into custody. He explained that he had mistaken the security forces for Ukrainian servicemen for shooting at them.

Former Wagner PMC fighter Pavel Nikolin was sentenced to six years and 11 months in prison. The court found him guilty of an armed attack on police in Novoshakhtinsk. The Third Appellate Court in Sochi overturned the verdict. The case was sent back to the Rostov Regional Court for a new trial with a different panel.

Ultimately, Nikolin was sentenced to eight years in a general regime penal colony. He did not appeal the verdict, Kommersant reported on December 5, 2024.
