A fighter from the Volgograd region was killed in Ukraine.
Andrey Shirochkin from the Yelansky district was killed in a military operation in Ukraine. Since its beginning, at least 1,687 fighters from the Volgograd region have been officially recognized as killed.
As "Caucasian Knot" reported, by February 18, at least 1,686 fighters from the Volgograd region had been officially recognized as killed in the military operation in Ukraine.
The Yelansky District administration reported on the presentation of the "Father of a Soldier" medal to the father of Andrei Shirochkin, a slain participant in the military operation, on its VKontakte page.
Andrei Shirochkin signed a contract in April 2023. He was killed in July of that year in the Pokrovsky District of the DPR.
Thus, at least 1,687 fighters from the Volgograd Region have been officially recognized as killed in the military operation.
The death of a fighter from the Yelansky District was previously reported on February 1. At that time, authorities reported that Artem Bocharov had been killed in the military operation.
"Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts killed in the military operation. The list was compiled based on data officially released by government officials and law enforcement agencies, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Northern Military District Statistics: Casualties Mounting in Southern Russia."
State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Three Comrades Served: How Authorities Are Denying Benefits to Families of Killed Volunteers," which describes the stories of the slain soldiers. "He participated in combat operations for many years and holds two Orders of Courage. But no official honors were bestowed upon his family," a relative of one of them said.
