Deposits of stale fuel oil discovered in Anapa
Wind and waves have exposed chunks of previously washed-up fuel oil on Anapa's beaches, volunteers and bloggers reported. The Krasnodar Krai task force also acknowledged the presence of old fuel oil on the shore.
As reported by "Kavkazsky Uzel," an assessment of the official beaches of Anapa and the Temryuk district for their suitability for the resort season will be conducted in late spring or early summer. Authorities denied the reports about emissions on official beaches, citing the presence of petroleum products, for example, in protected areas and, in particular, on the Bugayskaya Spit.
The beaches of Anapa and the Temryuk district are still unsuitable for recreation following the fuel oil spill, Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor, stated on February 4. She didn't rule out the possibility that the situation could change by the start of the summer season. The head of Rospotrebnadzor's statement regarding Anapa's beaches has put an end to the 2026 season, some bloggers believe. First, they need to ensure there are no emissions from sunken tankers; others argue that hoteliers' profits are less important than public health. Against this backdrop, the Krasnodar Krai task force reported that there were no new fuel oil emissions on the coast of Anapa and the Temryuk district from January 29 to February 6. On February 7, volunteers reported that the wind had exposed layers of fuel oil right on the protective embankment. 12 bags of clean fuel oil were collected in one day.
On February 13, chunks of old fuel oil were discovered at the water's edge – the sea had washed away the sand, revealing old emissions. Chunks up to 40 cm in size were quickly removed from Khutorok Beach by Kuban-SPAS staff. Small crumbs from old fuel oil emissions were also exposed in some areas near the water's edge. The cleanup was partially completed on February 13, and cleanup continued on Saturday, February 14, according to a report from the Krasnodar Krai Operational Headquarters today.
The report stated that there were no new emissions during the week of February 6–13.
Blogger Yuri Ozarovsky reported today that he purchased 10 bags to collect old fuel oil in the Mozhepsin River area.

"Your cleanup is like a needle in a haystack, unfortunately," wrote spb.
"This is the most problematic remaining area, and it will be much cleaner afterward," the blogger responded.
Volunteers from the Net, Sieve, Shovel headquarters also reported stale chunks of fuel oil. "The southern wind has exposed work for all of us. The area of the Era Technopolis and Dzhemete," they said, calling on those interested to join the cleanup on February 15.
As a reminder, on April 18, 2025, Rospotrebnadzor declared 141 beaches in Anapa and nine beaches in the Temryuk district unsuitable for recreation.
