Blogger Arsen Markaryan, accused of rehabilitating Nazism and insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland, has asked the court to consider his case under a special procedure due to his agreement with the charges.
As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," in August, blogger Arsen Markaryan of Armenian descent was detained in Moscow and then arrested. He is accused of insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland (Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Russian Criminal Code, which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison). The blogger refused to admit guilt. On December 31, Markaryan's case was sent to court.
According to investigators, Markaryan posted a video on a video hosting site containing information insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland. Markaryan himself stated that he did not publish the video. "I'm unfamiliar with the channel, I didn't create it or administer it, and I didn't post or send this video to anyone."
Blogger Arsen Markaryan asked the Moscow City Court to consider his case under a special procedure, RIA Novosti reported on February 13, citing court documents.
The documents indicate that Markaryan filed a motion with the court to issue a verdict without a trial due to his agreement to the charges. The court hearing to consider the petition is scheduled for February 19.
