Participants of the Limonov Readings in Krasnodar failed to challenge the arrests.
A court in Krasnodar upheld the arrests of four Other Russia activists for displaying extremist symbols.
As reported by the Caucasian Knot, security forces violently detained eight participants in the Limonov Readings in Krasnodar. The court arrested them for administrative offenses of displaying extremist symbols and organizing an unauthorized event for terms ranging from two to 10 days. Ruslan Khubaev and Alexey Leonenko received the longest terms, 10 days. Three of those arrested—Yana Auzeva, Alexandra Papsheva, and Kirill Dultsev—have already been released. Two of the activists required ambulance care.
Police and the court found that those gathered at the "Limonov Readings" were displaying extremist symbols, although the symbols of Eduard Limonov's Other Russia party are not prohibited and are not listed as extremist materials.
The Krasnodar Regional Court held hearings on the appeals of Other Russia activists Alexandra Papsheva, Mikhail Matyazh, Ruslan Khubaev, and Alexei Leonenko. The interests of the previously arrested individuals were represented by attorney Alexei Kalugin, the National Human Rights Defense Telegram channel reported.
All appeals were dismissed, and the decisions of the first instance were upheld. During the court hearings in two cases, evidence was presented that the symbols of “E.V. Limonov’s Other Russia” are not prohibited symbols. In two other cases, these documents were not included, despite the fact that they were filed electronically, the publication states.
