J.D. Vance and Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on investing $9 billion in Armenia's nuclear energy sector. Vance expressed support for Pashinyan in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," ahead of US Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Yerevan, activists and clergy from Nagorno-Karabakh requested assistance in securing the release of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan.

US Vice President J.D. Vance is on a visit to Armenia that will last until February 11, Interfax reports.

At a briefing with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Vance announced that the US will invest $9 billion in Armenia's nuclear energy sector. According to him, they signed a statement on "completing negotiations on a nuclear cooperation agreement, known as the 123 Agreement," which will pave the way for Armenian and American companies to implement a number of programs, News.am reports.

The US Vice President clarified that the goal of the announced program is Armenia's energy stability and new jobs for American workers. "We are talking about small modular reactors - American technology will come to this country," he added.

Vance also commented on the implementation of the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" project, which, in his opinion, will radically change the entire South Caucasus, open "a new world for international trade, transit and energy flows, and provide unprecedented connectivity between Armenia and neighboring countries."

On August 8, 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement at a meeting in Washington declaration on the cessation of hostilities. Moreover, Aliyev and Pashinyan did not sign the peace agreement, but only initialed it, while most of the declaration's clauses contain vague wording, analysts noted. US President Donald Trump stated that the key issue that prevented the signing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the Zangezur Corridor, has been resolved. The "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report entitled "Trump Route (TRIPP): Transport Corridor through Armenia."

Nikol Pashinyan, in turn, stated that the issue of "completely lifting the blockade" of Armenia was discussed at a meeting with the US Vice President. "And in this context, we attach great importance to the logical conclusion of the dialogue between Armenia and Turkey, including the opening of the Gyumri-Kars railway," he added.

Pashinyan also announced the purchase of V-BAT drones from the United States. He called this "significant progress in the field of military and defense cooperation between Armenia and the United States." Vance confirmed that the United States approved the sale of drones to Armenia worth $11 million and expressed confidence that "the peace that is being created will remain stable."

At the briefing, Vance also expressed support for Pashinyan in the upcoming parliamentary elections. He called the Armenian Prime Minister a person "who is capable of building a long-term partnership."

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed a decree setting the date of the next elections to the National Assembly; they will be held on June 7.
