RIA Novosti reported today, citing the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), that a terrorist attack was thwarted at a correctional facility in Kuban, where the convicted man planned to kill Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) employees.
"A terrorist attack at a correctional facility in the Krasnodar Territory, planned by a Central Asian national born in 1980, has been thwarted. Investigative operations revealed that the accused, while serving his sentence at the said penitentiary, planned to commit a terrorist attack by killing correctional facility employees," the agency's statement reads.
The suspect was detained while attempting to commit the terrorist attack; there were no casualties. The Investigative Department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) for the Krasnodar Territory has opened a criminal case against the detainee for preparing to commit a terrorist act. The FSB has released a video of the arrest of the suspect, who admitted to planning to start a fire and kill employees with homemade knives, TASS reports. "I wanted to burn down the club, then I wanted to kill the administration," he said after his arrest. According to him, he drained the gasoline from the container, took the acetone from a sewing workshop, and repurposed the knives there to commit arson and murder, the agency clarified.

According to security officials, the suspects, while serving their sentences, planned to take hostages from among the penal colony's employees and set fire to the buildings.
