A Stavropol police officer has become the head of Kizlyar

Kizlyar City Council deputies elected Ivan Lazurkov, who previously served in the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Stavropol, as mayor. The candidacy of Alexander Shuvalov, who led the city for 10 years, was not considered.

The Kizlyar City District Assembly elected 36-year-old Ivan Lazurkov as head of the municipality by a majority vote. The meeting was held during an extraordinary open session of the City Council. Lazurkov's opponent was Alexander Abdullaev, a member of the eighth City Assembly.

The majority of deputies supported the candidacy of Ivan Lazurkov. He is originally from Kizlyar, a graduate of the Modern Humanitarian Academy (Moscow), and worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Stavropol Territory from 2018 to 2025.

He replaced Alexander Shuvalov, who had led the city since September 2015, as mayor, Interfax reports.
