Suspects in Elbrus Death Case Detained
Investigators have detained the director and chief engineer of the company servicing the cable car on Elbrus, where three people died in an accident.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, on September 12, as a result of a cable car cable breaking on Mount Elbrus, three people died. According to the investigation, several more people were injured when the suspended chairs with people fell onto the rocks.
After the incident, a criminal case was opened under the article on the death of two or more people as a result of the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements (part 3 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, provides for up to 10 years in prison).
Today, investigators detained as suspects the director and chief engineer of Elbrus LLC, who were responsible for servicing the equipment and the safety of services, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Kabardino-Balkaria reported on its Telegram channel.
"The investigators also sealed the technical premises of the cable car stations and stopped its operation along the entire route," the publication says.
According to the investigation, on September 12, an accident occurred on the cable car and chairlift, as a result of which three people died and received various several people were injured. "The investigation established that the equipment of the chairlift was operated by Elbrus MKD LLC," the report notes.
