Residents of Buinaksk left without water due to accident

The water supply to Buinaksk has been cut off due to an accident on the water supply network. Not only residential buildings, but also six kindergartens and three schools were left without water.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, in June, Buinaksk experienced long-term interruptions in water supply, at that time the problems were explained by a breakdown of the pump at the Chirkey-Buinaksk pumping station. Residents, who had to buy water for more than a week, complained that the water supply is interrupted regularly despite the authorities' promises to solve the problem, and that the water delivery is poorly organized.

In September 2024, the water supply to Buinaksk was also limited due to a breakdown of equipment at the pumping station. The head of Dagestan demanded that the problem be urgently resolved, but the interruptions continued until early October.

The press service of the Unified Operator of Dagestan in the field of water supply and sanitation reported on the evening of September 9 about the accident, due to which the water supply to Buinaksk was cut off. A 600 mm diameter water main was damaged, and a leak occurred in it.

“Specialists have already begun to repair the damage. The estimated time frame for completing the work and restoring the water supply will be announced additionally,” the operator’s official Telegram channel said.

The city administration, in turn, reported that residents of more than 15 streets and several villages were left without water supply. There is no water, in particular, on the streets of Imam Shamil, Kumukhsky, Gazimagomed, Chkalov, Ordzhonikidze, Shamkhalov, Zulpukarov, Salavatov and Makhmud. There is no water supply at all in the village of Gereyawlak, Yangi-aul, the microdistricts of PMK-20 and ZhMZ, in the village of Energetikov and the Prirechensk district.

The outage zone also includes social facilities - six kindergartens, three schools, a teacher training college and a medical college, the official channel of the municipality reported with reference to the Buynaksk Vodokanal.

"Kavkazsky Uzel" also wrote that at the beginning of June 2024, at least 228 people were hospitalized in Buynaksk after mass poisoning. On June 11, the Rospotrebnadzor Administration announced that the source of mass infection of city residents was tap water, and six of the sick people were found to have several intestinal infections: dysentery, norovirus, and rotavirus. Mass poisonings in the city are occurring due to sewage entering worn-out water supply networks and illegal taps into the water supply system, Dagestani specialists indicated. In March, the case of the former acting director of Buinakskvodokanal was transferred to court.
