Two residents of Kabardino-Balkaria suspected of embezzling state subsidies
Budget funds allocated for the creation of a tourist center in the Elbrus district of Kabardino-Balkaria were stolen.
The criminal case on the theft of budget funds is being investigated by the FSB Directorate for Kabardino-Balkaria. Preliminary damage is estimated at 60 million rubles.
The suspects in the security forces' report are called "residents" of the republic, their professional status is not specified, as well as personal information. "The defendants received a subsidy for the creation of a tourist center in the Elbrus district, but did not fulfill their obligations, and stole the money received," Interfax-Yug quotes the FSB as saying.
A criminal case has been opened under the article on fraud on an especially large scale. This article provides for up to ten years in prison.
In May 2024, activist Artur Baydayev recorded a video about the specially protected area of the Elbrus National Park being polluted by sewage near a tourist hotel and the Itkol microdistrict. He called on officials to take action. A few months later, the activist reported that the authorities were not responding to complaints.
