Teenager arrested in Krasnodar in railway arson case
Security forces detained a teenager in Krasnodar on suspicion of committing a terrorist attack on the railway.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, on September 3, the Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced 44-year-old Mikhail Latiy to 9 years in a maximum security penal colony for attempting to set fire to relay cabinets on the railway. Latiy was looking for work - he was offered a job by a user in a messenger with the nickname "Nikolas", who promised 30 thousand rubles for setting fire to metal relay cabinets with equipment.
The versions of the motives for setting fire to relay cabinets in Kuban look unconvincing, and such cases often have signs of falsification, human rights activists stated, commenting on the sentence of Mironichev. The relay cabinet is an important part of the infrastructure, so the motive for sabotage cannot be ruled out, the former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs objected.
A court in the capital of Kuban has remanded in custody a 15-year-old local resident, whom the Investigative Committee suspects of committing a terrorist act. According to security forces, the teenager set fire to four relay cabinets and a transformer substation of the North Caucasus Railway, said the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko.
According to the official version, the teenager met a representative of the Ukrainian special services in the Telegram messenger in August 2025. The interlocutor offered the young man to set fire to equipment on the railway for a monetary reward. The teenager made an incendiary mixture and went to a section of the railway in the central part of Krasnodar, not far from the main railway station and the Kuban stadium. After committing the arson, he fled, leaving a bottle with the remainder of the flammable mixture at the scene. His identity was established within a short time, the teenager was detained, Kommersant quotes the representative.
The investigation is being conducted under the article on the highway (part 1 of article 205 of the Criminal Code). However, the FSB is conducting an investigation "with the aim of qualifying the actions of the detainee under article 275 (high treason) of the Criminal Code, the agency's Public Relations Center reported. In total, the detainee faces a punishment of up to life imprisonment, TASS reported.
