Stavropol resident found guilty of calling for extremism
A court in Stavropol Krai has given a suspended sentence to a local resident who posted obscene posts about security forces on a social network.
The criminal case was heard by the Apanasenkovsky District Court of Stavropol. The man was charged with public calls for extremist activity on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Russian Criminal Code provides for up to five years in prison).
According to the prosecution, the Stavropol resident posted “headlines with extremist content” on his personal social network page. The posts with obscene language were about employees of Russian law enforcement agencies, according to a statement from the united press service of the regional courts.
The man agreed with the charges in court. The court, taking into account his remorse, sentenced him to two years of imprisonment with a probationary period of four years and a three-year ban on administering Internet sites.
The personal data of the convicted person, who was named "citizen D." in the court's press service report, are hidden from the case file on the court's website. The "Caucasian Knot" does not yet have any comments from the convicted person or his lawyer regarding the sentence.
"Caucasian Knot" also wrote that a resident of the Astrakhan region was arrested at the end of August in a case of public calls for terrorism and extremism due to posts in the Telegram messenger.
