Portraits of SVO participants in Makhachkala were unknowingly painted by children. According to the father, there was no intent in their actions, just a prank.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, on August 28, the acting mayor of Makhachkala, Dzhambulat Salavov, reported that unknown defaced portraits of combatants, and threatened them with punishment.

The police have identified those who defaced the portraits of combatants in Makhachkala; they turned out to be children, the head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Dagestan, Gayana Gariyeva, reported on her Telegram channel.

"Yes, the investigation conducted by the police established that children did it. Of course, unconsciously!" she wrote.

In the video published by Gariyeva, the children's faces are blurred, they look no more than seven years old. The boys' father says that their grandfather was with them that day, and he didn't immediately notice that the children were drawing on the portraits with a marker. A passerby noticed this and made a remark. They bought wet wipes in the store and tried to erase the drawings, but it didn't work. "We ourselves condemn and don't welcome this, and the children will have a... good talk about this," he said, adding that "there was no malicious intent in the children's actions."

At the end of the video, an excerpt was published, apparently from the store's CCTV footage, in which an elderly man says something to the children, who, apparently, are wiping away tears.

In May, investigators opened a case of vandalism motivated by political hatred after the letter V on the KisloVodsk stele, located at the entrance to the city, was set on fire. This is the second case of arson since the letter was installed in 2022. A Kislovodsk resident and his friend, arrested after setting fire to the letter V in January 2023, were accused of participating in an extremist organization and intentional destruction of property, one received five years in prison with a large fine, the other - 1.5 years of imprisonment. The charge of vandalism motivated by political hatred allows the accused to be sentenced to a longer term.
