Policeman killed during chase in Makhachkala

Police officers were pursuing a driver who did not stop at their request on Primakov Street in Makhachkala and opened fire. A police officer who was in a parked car was fatally wounded.

On Primakov Street in Makhachkala, traffic patrol officers demanded that the driver of a Toyota Camry stop, but he ignored their request. The security forces began pursuing the car, the driver of which was grossly violating traffic rules, driving into the oncoming lane, and maneuvering dangerously. The State Traffic Inspectorate officers were forced to use their service weapons to stop the car.

As a result of the shooting, the district police officer, who was off duty in a parked personal vehicle, was fatally wounded, the Dagestan Ministry of Internal Affairs reported late in the evening on August 28.

The Dagestan Investigative Committee reported on the investigation of a criminal case under the articles on causing death by negligence (part 2 of article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and the use of violence against a government official (part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The agency added that the driver of the car "ran over a police officer who blocked his path," after which the security forces organized a chase. The case is being investigated under part 2 of article 109 (causing death by negligence) and part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (use of violence against a government official).

According to Mash, the policeman's death was caused by a ricocheting bullet that hit him in the head. The offender has been detained.
