Salavov reported vandalism against military portraits in Makhachkala
Unknown persons defaced portraits of combatants installed in Makhachkala. Acting Mayor Dzhambulat Salavov threatened them with punishment.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, in May, investigators opened a case of vandalism motivated by political hatred after the letter V on the "KisloVodsk" stele located at the entrance to the city was set on fire. This is the second case of arson since the letter was installed in 2022. A resident of Kislovodsk and his acquaintance, arrested after setting fire to the letter V in January 2023, were accused of participating in an extremist organization and intentional destruction of property, one received five years in prison with a large fine, the second - 1.5 years of imprisonment. The charge of vandalism motivated by political hatred allows to assign a longer term to the accused.
Portraits of participants in military operations in Ukraine, installed on Peter I Avenue, were defaced by unknown persons. This was reported by the acting mayor of Makhachkala, Dzhambulat Salavov.
Judging by the short video recording published by Salavov, arbitrary scribbles were applied to the portraits, presumably with a marker or pen. The figures do not represent inscriptions or recognizable symbolic drawings.
Salavov called the actions of the unknown "desecration". "This act is not just hooliganism, but a deep insult not only to the soldiers who gave their lives, but to their families, all the residents of the city," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
According to Salavov, the authorities will soon replace the photographs with new ones, and the authors of the scribbles are already being sought. “Law enforcement agencies are already working. I am confident that the culprits will be found and punished,” he added.
