Kuban Emergencies Ministry refused to help volunteers remove fuel oil
Volunteers manually remove bags of fuel oil collected near Cape Tuzla, since the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Krasnodar Territory refused to provide them with an all-terrain vehicle for this purpose.
"Caucasian Knot" wrote that from July 25 to August 26, the authorities did not record new emissions of fuel oil on the coast of Anapa, although volunteers at that time stated that emissions were continuing. On August 23, volunteers recorded emissions in the area of Lake Tuzla, the "Dolphins" headquarters asked for help in cleaning the shore. After the storm on August 24, new emissions of oil products appeared on the coast . According to activists, in the Temryuk district, near the site of the tanker wreck, a large amount of fuel oil is being washed ashore.
A few volunteers continue to work in the Temryuk district of Kuban, removing fuel oil from places inaccessible to equipment. The authorities stopped volunteer activity on official beaches and report that the cleanup of the fuel oil spill is complete. Since the beginning of August, volunteers from the Dolphins headquarters have collected about 600 bags of oil products on the beaches of Taman, and they called the situation with emissions in some areas catastrophic.
Volunteers of the Dolphins headquarters, who collect fuel oil on the coast near Cape Tuzla, were left without any support from the authorities, the head of the headquarters, Alexander Kirpa, reported today.
According to the activist, “each bag of fuel oil has to be dragged almost a kilometer along the coast to the cliff, then loaded into a boat and sent on”
“We continue to remove fuel oil from the coast - from Cape Tuzla towards Cape Panagia. Alas, everything has to be done with improvised means. We were really counting on the help of equipment and funding from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Krasnodar Territory. But the decision “at the top” turned out to be different, we were never given an all-terrain vehicle,” he wrote in the Telegram community of volunteers “Razliv na svyazi”.
Kirpa noted that “there was no funding for an all-terrain vehicle either,” so volunteers continue to carry heavy loads manually. “The Emergencies Ministry forces have left, and now only we are left on the shore - volunteers from the Dolphins headquarters and the Kuban SPAS duty shift,” he added.
The Anapa Grazhdanskaya Association, in turn, reported that a ban on visiting city beaches with animals will come into force in the city from September 1. “The new rules apply to all pets, including dogs. The restriction was introduced to maintain sanitary standards and the safety of vacationers,” the publication says.
In December 2024, two tankers with fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait, which led to catastrophic environmental consequences. Details can be found in the "Caucasian Knot" reference "Fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait". Materials about the consequences of the fuel oil spill have been collected by the "Caucasian Knot" on the thematic page "Eco-disaster in Kuban".
As a result of the eco-disaster, Rospotrebnadzor recognized 141 beaches in Anapa and nine beaches in the Temryuk district as unsuitable for recreation. Fuel oil was found on all beaches in Anapa, on the coast in the Temryuk district and on the coast of the Sea of Azov in the Slavyansk region of Kuban, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "The extent of pollution of southern Russia with fuel oil".
