Four candidates nominated for Tbilisi mayoral post

The Girchi party nominated Iago Khvichia as a candidate for mayor of Tbilisi, while the Conservatives for Georgia party previously proposed the candidacy of Zurab Makharadze. The Central Election Commission will consider the candidacies of the incumbent mayor of the city, Kakha Kaladze, and the opposition candidate, Irakli Kupradze.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, "Georgian Dream" has officially begun preparations for the municipal elections, nominating for the third time the incumbent mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze. The opposition parties "Lelo - Strong Georgia" and "Gakharia for Georgia" have nominated Lelo Secretary General Irakli Kupradze as a joint candidate for mayor of Tbilisi, amid the refusal of most opposition parties to participate in the municipal elections.

Eight opposition parties have announced a boycott of the municipal elections. The statement was signed by the parties "Freedom Square", "Droa", "Girchi - More Freedom", "United National Movement", "Strategy Agmashenebeli", "European Georgia", "Akhali" and "Federalists". The opposition party "Lelo" and Giorgi Gakharia's party "For Georgia" did not join the boycott. The coalition "Lelo - Strong Georgia" announced its participation in the municipal elections. The opposition, which announced a boycott of the elections, called this decision a betrayal.

The Girchi party nominated Iago Khvichia as a candidate for mayor of Tbilisi. Alexander Rakviashvili was nominated as a candidate for vice-mayor from the party. Today, candidates for deputies of the Tbilisi Sakrebulo were named: Dato Pandzhakidze, Giorgi Gvenetadze and Eka Oniani, reports "Interpressnews".

Earlier, the pro-Russian party "Conservatives for Georgia", also known as "Alt-Info", nominated a candidate for the post of mayor of Tbilisi - this is Zura Makharadze. In his video address, he said that it was time for the country and the capital to "focus on real problems" and not on the imaginary political conflict, "Novosti Georgia" reported on August 11.
