Part of the opposition has nominated a candidate for mayor of Tbilisi
The opposition parties Lelo - Strong Georgia and Gakharia for Georgia have nominated Lelo Secretary General Irakli Kupradze as a joint candidate for Tbilisi mayor, amid the refusal of most opposition parties to participate in the municipal elections.
As reported by the Caucasian Knot, the Georgian Dream has officially begun preparations for the municipal elections, nominating the current head of the city, Kakha Kaladze, as a candidate for Tbilisi mayor for the third time.
Eight opposition parties have announced a boycott of the municipal elections. The statement was signed by the parties Freedom Square, Droa, Girchi - More Freedom, United National Movement, Strategy Agmashenebeli, European Georgia, Akhali and "Federalists". The opposition party "Lelo" and Giorgi Gakharia's party "For Georgia" did not join the boycott. The coalition "Lelo - Strong Georgia" announced its participation in the municipal elections. The opposition, which announced a boycott of the elections, called this decision a betrayal.

According to the representative of "Strong Georgia" Tazo Datunashvili, it is necessary to fight to the end, using all opportunities in the elections to local government bodies on October 4.
Representative of the party "Gakharia for Georgia" Ana Buchukuri said that she was glad that the initial stage in relations between the two political forces had begun and noted that the cooperation of both parties "will successfully continue" since they are not fighting against each other, the agency "Gruzia Online" reported.
According to Kupradze, "Lelo - Strong Georgia" and the party "Gakharia for Georgia" will "conduct an uncompromising fight against the Russian regime", reports "Interpressnews".
"I will tell you frankly, this is a heavy responsibility that two, in my opinion, main political parties have jointly placed on me. This was a historic agreement," he said. he noted that the two parties had agreed on a joint candidate, while for decades the political field had been aimed at division.
