The Court of Appeal upheld the legality of the seizure of property and money of the former Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Krasnodar Krai Sergei Simonenko in favor of the state.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, in January the court extended the arrest period of the former Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for Krasnodar Krai Sergei Simonenko. The defense asked to transfer Simonenko to house arrest, stating that he is ill with cancer and needs medical care.

Sergey Simonenko is accused of organizing the arson of cars belonging to the family of his former subordinate, as well as of attempting to assassinate him. The victims in the case are a former employee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations - Simonenko's subordinate - and his relatives. The case against Simonenko is combined with the case of three of his possible accomplices. According to investigators, Yevgeny Kauts, Dmitry Nadzha and Aleksandr Plotnikov threw Molotov cocktails into the yard of the victims in Korenovsk on February 28, 2019, causing two cars to burn down.

The Third Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Sochi upheld the legality of the decision of the Krasnodar Regional Court, which seized the property and money of the former Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory Sergei Simonenko in favor of the state, RBC wrote on August 18.

According to the prosecutor's office, Simonenko used his official position for illegal enrichment, while registering the property in the names of relatives and trusted persons. Simonenko himself claimed that he inherited the property from his father, who headed the Kuban training and experimental farm.

The prosecutor's office also claims that Simonenko hired his nephew as deputy head of one of the departments of the regional department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. Both were fired due to loss of trust, and the former deputy tried to challenge the decision. The court of first instance rejected the claim.

The property seized from Simonenko reportedly included 55 real estate properties and 32 expensive cars.

In March, a court in Sochi denied Sergei Simonenko's wife the unblocking of accounts that were frozen as part of a criminal case. Svetlana Simonenko asked to lift the freeze on the accounts in order to receive money within the subsistence minimum for each family member. The courts also denied Svetlana Simonenko's request to lift the arrest on her real estate.
