Teacher at private madrasah in Gudermes under investigation after beating students
A criminal case for the torture of a minor has been opened against a teacher at a private school in Gudermes, who beat students with a stick.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel wrote, in July the Chechen Investigative Committee reported on an investigation of a video showing the beating of underage students. The regional Commissioner for Children's Rights reported that the teacher was fired, and the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Chechnya closed the madrasah in Gudermes after the incident. Violence against students is contrary to Sharia and the ethics of Islam, and under secular laws it may fall under the article on torture, human rights activists and lawyers indicated.
The published video shows the beating of at least four children. First, the teacher hits several students on the legs and other parts of the body with a stick. One of the boys, having received blows, falls to the floor. Then the teacher hits another student, as well as two more. At the end of the video, all four children, after the punishment, do a physical exercise.
The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Chechnya reported today that a criminal case has been opened regarding violence against students of a madrasah in Gudermes. The case has been opened under the article on torture of a minor (Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), which provides for three to seven years of imprisonment.
According to the investigation, from March to May 2025, a private school teacher “systematically beat three underage boys” using a piece of polypropylene pipe as a weapon, the department’s official Telegram channel said.
Forensic examinations are being conducted in the case. The Chechen Investigative Committee did not specify whether the suspect was detained or whether a preventive measure was chosen for him.
Earlier, the mufti of Chechnya said that the young man who beat the students in the video was 17 years old and did not have muftiate accreditation to teach in a madrasah.
