Four prisoners injured in explosion in Volgograd prison

A gas cylinder exploded in a colony located in the Traktorozavodsky district of Volgograd; four prisoners were hospitalized with burns.

Four prisoners with burns of varying severity were hospitalized from the territory of the penal colony located in the Traktorozavodsky district of the city of Volgograd, the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Volgograd Region reported.

"During work in one of the utility blocks, a gas cylinder exploded and then ignited," the department said in a message on its Telegram channel.

The Investigative Committee reported on an inspection based on signs of a crime under Part 1 of Article 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of labor protection requirements if this resulted in the inadvertent infliction of serious harm to human health).

The FSIN for the Volgograd Region called the condition of the injured prisoners satisfactory. "A gas cylinder exploded in a room used to store construction materials at Volgograd's IK-9, resulting in four convicts receiving burns. They were taken to one of the city hospitals. The convicts' condition is satisfactory," the Federal Penitentiary Service reported.

The colony, which is located in the village of Vodstroy, houses strict-regime convicts, Vysota 102 reported.
