Dagestan resident receives prison deferment after selling child
A court in Makhachkala sentenced a resident of Dagestan to a prison term, finding her guilty of selling her newborn daughter. The woman received a deferred sentence until her first child turns 14.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, in April a criminal case was opened against two residents of Dagestan, one of whom, according to investigators, sold her own newborn child to another for 300 thousand rubles. In May, the criminal case was transferred to court.
According to investigators, in January a 25-year-old resident of Dagestan gave birth to a girl. Upon discharge from the maternity hospital, by prior arrangement, she handed over the child to a resident of Makhachkala for monetary compensation.
The Sovetsky District Court of Makhachkala sentenced a resident of Dagestan accused of selling a newborn child, The Investigative Committee of Dagestan reported today.
The court found her guilty of handing over the child to a Makhachkala woman for a monetary reward immediately after discharge from the maternity hospital. The woman was sentenced to three years in prison. At the same time, the court granted the defendant a deferment of punishment until her first child reaches 14 years of age, according to a message on the department's official Telegram channel.
The investigators did not specify how many more years the defendant could remain at large. The department also did not report at what stage the case of the second participant in the transaction, the buyer of the child, is.
