Electricity supply to Makhachkala residents' homes has been restored
Power engineers have eliminated the consequences of the substation accident, after which more than 86 thousand Makhachkala residents were left without electricity. The authorities are unable to solve the problem of regular power outages, the head of Dagestan admitted.
As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, on July 26, about 86.5 thousand people in Makhachkala were left without electricity. The authorities explained the accident by a fire at the Novaya substation, caused by an excessive load on the power lines.
The central streets of Makhachkala were left without power - the Juma Mosque area, Askerkhanov, Yaragsky, Irchi Kazak, Imam Shamil, Nakhimov streets and others. The emergency restoration work will be completed during the day, the mayor's office promised.
The deadlines for power supply announced by the mayor's office were missed
By half past two in the morning, the power supply was fully restored
The power supply was restored only last night, the Ministry of Energy of Dagestan reported on its Telegram channel. "The power supply to consumers disconnected due to an accident at the 110 kV Novaya substation has been fully restored. Dagenergo specialists continued to work even in the dark. By half past two in the morning, the power supply was fully restored," the publication says.
The Makhachkala administration also reported this on its Telegram channel today. "Dagenergo specialists have completely restored power supply to previously de-energized consumers in certain areas of Makhachkala. By 02:30, power engineers had restored power supply to consumers who were temporarily de-energized as a result of a technological failure in the cable network at the 110 kV Novaya substation. [...] We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience," the statement said.
On July 25, residents of Makhachkala complained to the "Caucasian Knot" about regular power outages. According to them, there is sometimes no power for several hours to several days. A Dagenergo employee said that sometimes tens of thousands of people in the city are left without power at the same time. "There are not enough people to quickly fix the accidents, teams are traveling from one location to another. The old networks cannot withstand the load," he explained.
Melikov announced a record load on the republic's power grid
The head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov today reported that the power supply system "is operating at the limit." "Over the past 10 days, the maximum load level has been exceeded six times in Dagestan. These are record figures for recent years. Despite all efforts, our networks are not yet ready for such loads," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
It is difficult to see the results of the enormous work that is being done
At the same time, Melikov acknowledged the inefficiency and sluggishness of the authorities. "I have repeatedly raised the issue of our energy complex at the federal level, including proposing to begin implementing a comprehensive program for the development of the region's energy system. All these decisions are being made, but not as quickly as we would all like. And although it is difficult to see the results of the enormous work that is being done, they are there. It is thanks to them that this year there are more than two times fewer accidents than in 2023, and much fewer than in 2024," the publication says.
According to the head of the republic, "the networks are worn out, consumption is growing sharply, the volume of investment in infrastructure modernization is insufficient, and chaotic and illegal construction is exacerbating these problems." "All services are currently on high alert: 678 specialists from utility companies and nearly three hundred pieces of equipment. We are constantly monitoring the situation," he said.
Recall that on May 10, residents of Bezdorozhnaya Street in Makhachkala demanded that a working transformer be installed and electricity supplied. After a video of the spontaneous gathering of residents was published on Telegram, the authorities announced a solution to the problem. According to the city residents, only publicity about the situation prompted the authorities to install a working transformer.
Residents of Makhachkala have previously held protests due to power outages. Thus, in July 2024, residents of the Reduktorny settlement held a spontaneous protest due to a power outage.
On December 13, 2023, residents of the Separatorny settlement blocked traffic along Akushinsky Avenue due to a two-day power outage. The protest ended when the power engineers promised to provide electricity to homes.
In August of the same year, several protests were held in Makhachkala due to power outages. In particular, residents blocked traffic in the village of Semender and the Reduktorny village.
Residents should more actively fight for their rights by filing official complaints about power outages, Dagestani activists said in August 2023 and explained the procedure for filing complaints at a meeting with city residents.
